Breed of the week - The Italian Greyhound

Despite a delicate appearance, Italian Greyhounds are swift, hardy hounds who have survived the upheavals of two millennia.
This is an elegant and slender little dog, looking like a standard Greyhound, but in miniature. The coat is smooth and glossy and can come in a variety of shades (black, grey, fawn and many variations). They weight around 5 kg.
This is a clean, shy, very gentle dog. The Italian Greyhound loves to snuggle, partly out of affection and partly due to their need to keep warm! As many other breeds, an early socialisation is recommended so they will accept new people and situations more readily, but they are nearly always a one-person dog.
Their lifespan is around 13 years old.
Did you know ?
Despite the name, the Italian Greyhound comes originally from ancient Egypt (where their mummified remains could be found entombed with pharaohs). They are probably one of the very first breeds to be developed purely as a companions (with bichons).
Be careful, Italian Greyhounds are known to chase cars, bikes, people and cats – they are sighthounds after all ! They love the sofa and bed, but then also enjoy a fenced garden.
Xoxo, Alice
P. S. > a big smooch to little Roma, who is our neighbor (2 years old)
